Blog 5- Cottonrake Bakery Cottonrake Bakery—what a gem! Nestled on Great Western Road in the heart of Kelvinbridge, this bakery has earned its reputation as one of Glasgow's must-visit spots for pastries and cakes. Known for its weekend crowds, where queues often spill out the door, I decided to stop by during a quieter time on a Wednesday to finally experience it for myself. With consistently high ratings, Cottonrake is especially famous for its incredible cakes and artisanal pastries. The bakery draws a lively crowd, from West End university students to visitors from the outskirts who are keen to explore the scenic West End. Cottonrake is almost always buzzing, a testament to its popularity and the quality of its offerings. The exterior is understated yet stylish, with a clean, modern design that feels inviting. There’s a small amount of outdoor seating, which is typically filled on weekends by customers braving the weather just to savor their treats. Inside, the space is compa...

Blog 4- Kaffateria

Blog 4- Kaffateria Another Saturday morning led me to “Kaffateria,” conveniently located next to Glasgow Queen Street Station and Buchanan Street Subway Stop. Given the prime location, it’s easy to see why this spot draws a crowd of commuters, shoppers, students, and travellers looking for a quick caffeine boost in the heart of the city. Kaffateria stands out with a unique twist—it’s not just a café, but also a bar, offering an extensive selection of wines and cocktails. This dual-purpose approach makes it a versatile spot; by day, it’s bustling with coffee seekers, and by night, it transitions into a casual bar for those looking to unwind with a drink before catching their last train or subway home. Like other modern cafés around town, Kaffateria’s exterior is sleek and contemporary, with a few tables outside for when Glasgow’s weather is agreeable. Inside, the atmosphere shifts to a more intimate, relaxed vibe with dimmed lighting and touches of greenery, creating a laid-back e...

Blog 3- Wilson Street Pantry

Blog 3- Wilson Street Pantry This week, I had the chance to visit Wilson Street Pantry in Merchant Square, located just a short walk from the city centre of Glasgow. A friend had enthusiastically recommended it, praising it as one of the must-try brunch spots in Merchant City. Since I hadn’t ventured into many of the city centre's cafés, I was intrigued to see if it lived up to the hype. Upon arriving on a bustling Saturday morning, it quickly became clear that this café draws a crowd. We hadn’t made a reservation, and with weekend brunch spots always in high demand, we ended up waiting around 30 minutes for a table. The wait wasn’t too surprising, considering Wilson Street Pantry’s reputation, and it also gave me a chance to appreciate the modern exterior. The sleek, stylish façade includes a bit of outdoor seating, which I imagine would be perfect for warmer days, though it wasn’t quite the day for it when we visited. Once inside, the café’s modern theme continued. The interior...

Roots Fruits and Flowers

Roots Fruits & Flowers My second voyage was to Roots Fruits and Flowers on Great Western Road in the heart of Kelvinbridge. An interesting concept with a wholefoods and organic shop selling fresh produce, a florist and then finally the café. Having walked past the shop hundreds of times as I live locally, so I was keen to go in and give it a shot. The café attracts a diverse crowd, from families stopping in for a bite to students grabbing a quick coffee while tackling some work, as well as shoppers fresh from the florist or whole foods shop.  As a result, it usually has a lively, bustling atmosphere. On first impression the café has a rustic but welcoming feel to it, with many plants dotted around to give the café a fresh natural ambience. The warm wood accents, cosy lighting, and a hint of earthy scents create a comfortable environment that invites customers to relax and enjoy their time. The menu offers a wide selection of breakfast and lunch options, along with some enticing...

Blog 1- Caffe Mulberry

Caffe Mulberry For my first venture I decided the Caffe Mulberry would be a great start. Just a stone's throw away from the University of Strathclyde, this is a real hotspot for students looking for a quick coffee and a bite to eat. Caffe Mulberry has recently gone through a renovation over the summer which has made the outside of the café much more presentable and welcoming. My first impressions upon entering was that they have gone for a mixture of an old school rustic feel to the front of the house and a more modern look to the seating area. The front the house has chalkboards detailing the Menu and any special offers on and a wooden interior which also adds to this old school look. The seating however has a much modern atmosphere with marble tables, new chairs and a tartan bench which stretches the full length of the Café. The menu provides a vast range of different breakfast and lunch items such as pancake stacks, morning rolls and soup. My attention was immediately drawn to...
